Our Executive Chairman and Group Managing Director, Dato' A.K.Nathan's experience in the construction industry can be traced back to 1982 when he undertook his first project, the Dayabumi Building in Kuala Lumpur.
In 1983, Dato' A.K.Nathan worked on the erection of structural steel work for Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional's car plant in Shah Alam, Malaysia. This was followed by various projects in Malaysia including the foundation laying and tower erection of the transmission line for Kenyir Dam to Tanah Merah and the fabrication and erection of structural steel work for the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Power Station Phase II in 1986.
In 1988, Dato' A.K.Nathan ventured into Singapore after securing the contract for the fabrication and erection of structural steel work for the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This was followed by other projects in Singapore such as the Pulau Seraya Power Station Stage II, the amphitheatre for the Jurong Bird Park and the 66-storey Republic Plaza.
Shin Eversendai Engineering (M) Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated in 1993 to undertake engineering, fabrication design and erection of mechanical and structural work. It was awarded the contract to erect the tower head and spire steel for the Kuala Lumpur Tower which stands at 421 metres. In 1994, our Group was awarded the contract to fabricate and erect the steel structure for Petronas Twin Tower 2, the tallest twin towers in the world.
In 1996, our Group entered the Middle East market when our subsidiary, Eversendai Engineering LLC (Dubai) was awarded the contract to erect the steel structure for the sail-silhouetted Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai. It was once the world's tallest hotel at 321 metres. Since then, our Group has undertaken many key landmark projects in the Middle East especially in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. In Dubai, our subsidiary Eversendai Engineering LLC was part of the construction team for various iconic buildings such as the Emirates Towers, Ski Dubai, Rose Rayhaan Rotana Tower, Dubai Mall and Dubai Festival City.
Our Group also worked on other key landmark buildings in the Middle East such as the Khalifa Stadium and the New Doha International Airport in Qatar, Capital Gate Building in Abu Dhabi and Kingdom Trade Center in Saudi Arabia. In 2008, we were involved in the erection of the structural steel work (including the steel spire) for the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building at 828 metres and more than 160 stories high. The total steel used for the construction of the Burj Khalifa was approximately 8,220 MT. The steel spire of the Burj Khalifa, weighing approximately 350 MT, was constructed from within the building and jacked to its permanent position using a strand jack system.
In 1997, our Group set-up a full-fledged engineering department to enhance our value proposition to our clients. In the same year, our Group was awarded its first major design and construction project for the Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station in Malaysia. At present, a majority of our designing and draughting services is carried out by Eversendai Construction Pvt Ltd, our subsidiary in Chennai, India.
In 2003, we set up Sendang Project Management Sdn. Bhd and subsequently changed our name to Eversendai – Corporation Sdn. Bhd. On 13 April 2010, we were converted into a public limited company and assumed our current name, Eversendai Corporation Berhad.
In line with our Group's expansion plan, we acquired our first steel fabrication factory in Al Qusais, Dubai in 2003. In 2004, our Group commenced the construction of a new fabrication plant at the Hamriyah Free Zone, Sharjah in UAE followed by another steel fabrication factory at Doha, Qatar in 2006. In 2008, Eversendai Corporation Berhad commenced the construction of its fourth fabrication plant at the Rawang Integrated Industrial Park, Malaysia. To date, all the plants are operational with a combined fabrication capacity of approximately 119,000 MT per annum.
We also expanded our services to include fabrication and power plant installation works. Our Group is now a specialist in the erection of mechanical and structural works for coal-fired power plants. In 2001, our Group was involved in the erection of mechanical and structural steel work for the boiler plant, coal and ash plant, fuel gas desulphurization plant and the coal stockyard for the 3x700 megawatt Jana Manjung coal-fired power plant in Malaysia. After the success of this project, our Group was awarded the mechanical and structural erection works for the boiler plant for the 3x700 megawatt Tanjung Bin coal-fired power plant, Malaysia in 2004 and 2x700 megawatt Jimah coal-fired power plant, Malaysia in 2006.
