Application process
My friend helped me search for relevant openings and apply for the same. We visited First Naukri and came across this particular job opening In Delhi itself. It seemed like a perfect fit as well as a golden opportunity to me because I was interested in sales or logistics related profiles only. I immediately created my fresher job profile on http://www.naukri.com/campus/ and uploaded my updated resume on the portal.
I did a tad bit of research about Speedx Transport and found out that the company is a cross border carrier between Canada and United States. They offer quality freight and intermodal road delivery services across industries for product delivery at good rates. Their services include Full Truck Load, Less than Truck Load, Warehousing and Distribution.
Interview Rounds
First Round: Telephonic Interview
I received an interview call on the day after I applied for the job. It was for a telephonic round and was conducted then and there. Very generic questions were asked to me about my family background, educational details etc. It seemed to go smoothly. Later in the evening I received a call and mail for a face to face round in Speedx Transport office, Delhi.
Second Round: Technical
Questions asked to me were very generic and not too technical at all. Following are some of the questions that I faced.
- Q – If you are hired, how will you keep up to date on your target market?
A – In college, I loved to conduct surveys on multiple sets of people to understand their mindset before coming up with a new campus magazine issue. Interacting with and watching the target audience on social media is also a good way to understand their needs.
- Q – If you are a salesman, what are your favorite questions to ask a prospect?
A – Something like ‘What is your current situation?’ to understand their problem. And also ‘What is the budget in your mind?’ to understand their mindset as far as product pricing is concerned.
- Q – Is social media important for sales and marketing?
A – Absolutely. Today, social selling is in. It has become popular across industries. Facebook and Instagram marketing are on the rise as buyers spend most of their time online on social channels. Hence, social media has become an inseparable part of sales of marketing lifecycles today.
Interview questions I faced in the HR round and how I answered them
- Q – Why do you want to join this company?
A – Honestly, I am a fan of your company and this industry. If I bag this opportunity, I will be able to work with the best of the brains in this business. Besides, a senior of mine joined your firm only last year and he keeps sharing positive feedback about your firm.
At the same time, I have friends in the industry who have told me about your company’s respect for employees and how you create a great environment for rewarding innovation. I think my proactive style would fit in really well here especially in this particular role.
- Q – If you get selected, what will you pay the company?
A -These days, a workplace has become transactional for working people. Most of the corporate junta feels that they are the sole drivers of their own careers. This is not true. I believe an employee makes a company and a company makes an employee too! It is a mutual process.
The whole process of climbing the corporate ladder starts only when a company hires us! If I at all get selected by Speedx or any other company, I will happily join and fulfil my obligations to my best.
Also, I will remain loyal to my employer for as long as they would want me to work for them and beyond too. That is how I plan to pay the company, with my work, dedication, loyalty and knowledge.
- Q – Tell me something about yourself and your achievements.
A – I am a go getter with a ‘never say die’ attitude sticking up my collar! Achievements wise, I can add more to the things that I have already mentioned in my resume. (Smile!) I experienced my greatest achievement till date while freelancing as a sales trainee for an ecommerce start-up. Their website was pathetic and they were really struggling with their sales due to this. I was no webmaster, so I could not help them in that regard. Being new, I could sense that their team was under a lot of pressure. I took it up as a challenge to help their scenario by driving up sales bottom line. I asked for a similar list of sales targets like everyone else, and later that month I successfully cracked a deal with one of the biggest prospective clients based out of US.
“My learnings from this placement interview experience”
Below are some of the problems I had been facing after completing my graduation.
Unfamiliarity with company name: I was not familiar with the company and its recruiters. However, I got an opportunity and tried to give it my best shot because I was very serious to start my professional career.
Rejections in the past: Previously, I had already searched for jobs and was totally disappointed after multiple rejections at several campus placements and off campus drives.
Unemployment for 5 months: After completing my graduation, I was sitting at home idle for a period of about 5 months. It was a refreshing change to relax at home but after a few days, I began growing restless. I needed a job and hence I started applying rigorously.
Rejection at an interview my friends were able to crack: I left home and moved to Delhi in December 2017. I started hunting for jobs and in January, landed an interview. Two of my friends cracked it and I couldn’t which was very disappointing. My lack of technical knowledge was my biggest roadblock. Besides, I did not have any previous full-time job experience.
Trapped in the net of job consultancy services: I tried to get in touch with several companies and got befooled once. Incidentally, I paid for an assured job opening and received an interview call. I eventually figured out that it was an open hiring for all with no charges applied! I cleared the same and managed to bag an offer letter on the spot. Yet I was highly disappointed immediately rushed to confront the consultancy to get my money back. They flatly refused collecting money from me and called it a false charge. In a fit of rage, I tore my joining letter into bits and threw it on the HR Recruiter’s face. Then I went back home.
Plethora of negative feelings arose: Several negative feelings rose in my mind I felt that my life was over. This is when a friend of my redirected me to apply for fresher jobs on First Naukri. Then it was all history!
My hard work seemed to pay off as I got selected. I honestly feel that my Speedx interview experience is one of the most wonderful moments I have experienced till date.
“I would like to close this article by asking my juniors to feel confident, remain calm and apply their presence of mind during the interview. Then, nobody can stop you from winning. All the best! “
