Lights flashing, adrenaline soaring, and four of the most iconic investors\u2014like Peyush Bansal, Vineeta Singh, Namita Thapar, and Kunal Bahl\u2014waiting for your pitch. Your heart\u2019s pounding, but your confidence holds. You deliver the pitch. Boom, it\u2019s a hit. Social media explodes, sales skyrocket, and suddenly, you\u2019re a startup success story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, I didn\u2019t exactly make it to Shark Tank India (yet), but a college project in my 4th semester came close. The task? Build a business from scratch\u2014ideation, financials, and marketing\u2014and pitch it Shark Tank-style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sounds simple? It wasn\u2019t. Once we got started, we realized that coming up with something original, practical, and meaningful was much harder than expected. That was our first lesson in college entrepreneurship: innovation takes more than just brainstorming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Ideation_of_Smart_Helmets\"><\/span>The Ideation of Smart Helmets<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We spent sleepless nights and exhausting days bouncing ideas, from fresh juice kiosks to smart cycling helmets, even sci-fi-themed glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some ideas sounded brilliant at first but soon lost steam. Frustration crept in, but so did motivation. We didn\u2019t want to settle for anything generic. We wanted a product that could solve a problem and stand out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Breakthrough\"><\/span>The Breakthrough<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After 14 days of constant research, brainstorming, and lots of caffeine, we hit upon our breakthrough\u2014Spill, an advertising platform that uses everyday water bottles as brand carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, water bottles. Think about it\u2014people carry them to college, gyms, offices, and road trips. So why not turn them into mobile ads with witty, memorable messaging?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike billboards, which people ignore, Spill embedded advertising into daily life, giving it both visibility and utility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"My_Role_Head_of_Procurement_and_Planning\"><\/span>My Role: Head of Procurement and Planning<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As Head of Procurement and Planning, I was responsible for sourcing sustainable materials for the product. After extensive research and supplier discussions, we opted for bioplastic\u2014an eco-friendly, biodegradable material that aligned with our brand\u2019s values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond procurement, I contributed to shaping the business model, ensuring our supply chain plan was realistic, and assisting in creating our financial projections. It was my first exposure to sustainable business strategy and startup planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Business_Plan\"><\/span>Business Plan<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the product idea was finalized, we entered what we called the serious zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We stayed up late, perfecting every detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>End-to-end business model<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Costing and pricing strategies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Market segmentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Revenue projections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Profit &amp; Loss and balance sheets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We rehearsed our investor pitch until we knew it by heart, preparing for it as if we were genuinely going to raise capital on national television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Leap_Day_Presentation\"><\/span>Leap Day Presentation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Presentation day arrived\u201429th February. Nervous? Absolutely. But we also knew how much effort had gone in. We pitched confidently, presenting our product vision, market insights, and key figures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Projected Year 1 sales: \u20b950 lakhs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat rate: 72%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Average order value: \u20b91.5 lakhs per campaign<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gross margin: 55%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Net margin: 20%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Our pitch emphasized not just profit but purpose-driven branding, embedding advertisements into everyday objects for real impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"End_Result\"><\/span>End Result<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The result? We won. Our professors and the chief guest praised our unique concept\u2014combining sustainability with creative marketing. The recognition validated every sleepless night. The Chief Guest even gifted us \u20b92,000 as a token of appreciation, adding joy to our hard-earned victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was more than just a classroom project. It was our first entrepreneurial win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lessons_Learned\"><\/span>Lessons Learned<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Spill wasn\u2019t just a competition entry. It was a milestone in our personal and professional growth. It taught us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How to lead under pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time management during chaos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Team collaboration with real deadlines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The importance of sustainable procurement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to turn an idea into a potential business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This was our entry into real-world entrepreneurship, taking a concept from ideation to implementation, building financial models, and experiencing the thrill of creation. When I look back, it truly felt like a mini version of Shark Tank India. And every student should get the chance to experience something like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ever get the opportunity to participate in such a college project, take it seriously. It might lead to more than a grade or a certificate.
