Introduction

Postman collaboration is a critical feature that enables various stakeholders of an API to come together and participate in API development. Postman provides a wide range of tools to enhance collaboration with different users as a team. Users can create team workspaces to share their work and contribute to an API project.

Collaboration in team workspaces

Users can use team workspaces to work on API collections, environments, integrations and other features. Professional and Enterprise Postman users create private workspaces visible only to the creator and the team members invited to join them. It restricts access to the contents of the workspace and helps maintain security.

Creating Team workspaces

Team workspaces are created by default for a team. They can be renamed but not deleted. New workspaces can be created by clicking on Create Workspace. New members can be invited to the workspace by sharing it.

Moving elements

Collections, APIs and their environments can be moved into a team workspace from elsewhere. However, elements of a private, public or team workspace can not be transferred to a personal workspace. Moving elements between workspaces can be done by an editor, admin or super admin. Select the element you want to move and click on the three dots next to it. A Move inventory is displayed to select the destination.

Move collections

Some items related to an element are not moved automatically. Monitors in a collection will pause and remain in the same workspace. API documentation, environments and collection will also remain in the current workspace unless they are separately moved or reconfigured in the new workspace.

Sharing and Watching

Contents of team workspaces can be shared with other members by sending them invites to join the workspace. Workspace admins can invite other users and assign them specific roles. Workspace editors can invite members but cannot assign roles. All invites are notified to the users via email. Users who join as Collaborators via invites are directly added to the team workspace after approval from the Team Admin.

Team Workspaces can be closely watched for updates by clicking on the eye button. Doing this will send the user a notification every time the workspace is modified. Specific elements of a workspace can also be watched.

Work discussions

Interactions and discussions are essential in improvising API features and environments. Postman users can comment on API collections and requests or tag collaborators to respond to any questions or notify feedback.

Comments to a element

Comments can be posted in the comments section from the Collections tab. Users can also comment on saved requests. They can be added to request parameters and configurations too.

Comments to a request parameter

Click the comment icon to add comments on request parameters and select the parameter. Users can view all the comments made in the same comments section and edit, delete or resolve comments. The @ symbol can be used to tag a teammate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the different workspace roles in Postman?

The workspace admin can invite external users or teammates to any workspace and assign them a role. A workspace editor can invite external users to any workspace but cannot set roles. A workspace viewer can only view the workspace but cannot invite members to the workspace.

What can Professional and Enterprise Postman users do?

Professional Postman users can centrally manage the entire API workflow. Enterprise Postman users can securely manage, organise, and accelerate API-first development.

Who is a Super Admin?

Super Admins manage everything related to a team. This includes managing team members and admins, monitoring data usage and audit logs, viewing and changing workspaces' visibility, and managing SSO and custom domains.
