Content writing is the creation of text documents in the form of blogs, brochures, e-mails etc. The primary purpose is to educate and inform readers. Promoting sales and growth is an indirect, secondary purpose this content solves. Content writers heavily research the topics of discussion and produce quality content describing in detail the terms of service, the business's purpose, and the company's working. It is usually used for organic websites and non-commercial ventures.

Copywriting involves creating content to attract and lure readers into purchasing the company's goods and services. The primary aim is marketing and advertisement, which would, in turn, increase sales. Content is created to convince readers to take action related to the business's sales process, be it buying goods or availing services. Copywriting is done through pay-per-click ads, product mages, SMS ads etc.

Both forms of content creation write a different intent in mind. Listed below are some key points where their difference in delivery lie. Thus, one can choose the appropriate type based on the goal they wish their content will serve.

 

Purpose 

While content writing is designed to educate, copywriting is designed to persuade. Most textual ads involve copywriting as the main aim is to interest potential customers in the sales process. Catching the reader's eye is the end goal. On the other hand, text of blogs and informative brochures involves content writing as it provides deep insight to educate the reader. Based on the purpose, one can choose what to go for.

 

Content-Length

  • Heading creation: the heading of the website leaves the first impression on the reader. If the headline isn't catchy enough, the reader will surely skip the website link and shift to another. Hence the heading should be captivating and exciting at the same time. 

 

Copywriting 

  • Empathy: a copywriter should be empathetic with the reader, as the final delivery of the message is to them. 
  • Creativity: When the content to be created is all about captivity, the copywriter should be creative to come up with unique and modern ideas that resonate with the crowd.
  • Understanding the audience: All kinds of readers are exposed to advertisements, whether young or old, poor or rich; copywriters must understand their target audience's interests.
