Introduction

We are heading into an age where data is oil. And therefore, it becomes essential to secure our data. Cryptography is the process of hiding information. There are many cipher algorithms. In this blog, we will discuss the differences between Cryptography and Cyber Security.

Cryptography

It is a method of transferring encrypted data and connections through programs so that only the intended recipient is able to understand the information communicated. This method of operation prevents the information from being accessed by those who aren't authorized.

In cryptography, data is encoded using numerical hypotheses and a few computations known as algorithms. Then this encoded data is transferred, making it difficult to find the original data for anyone in the middle. These rules are employed in the digital signature, authentication, and generation of cryptographic keys, as well as the protection of all of your financial transactions.

Types of Cryptography

There are different types of cryptography:

  • Symmetric key cryptography
  • Asymmetric key cryptography
  • Hash function

Cyber Security

Cyber Security refers to the process of securing technical systems, networks, and programmes against digital attacks, damage, and unwanted access. Accessing, manipulating, or otherwise damaging essential data, extorting money from users or organisations, and even disorganizing regular corporate practices are all targets for these attacks.

Types of Cyber Security

There are different types of Cyber Security:

  • Network Security
  • Information or Data Security
  • Identity Management
  • Operation Security
  • Mobile Security

FAQs

1. What is Cryptography?

Ans: Cryptography is the use of complex techniques and procedures to hide information while sending, storing, and processing data.

2. What are the goals of Cryptography?

Ans: Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, and Non-Repudiation of IT systems are the goals of cryptography.

3. Why is Cryptography needed?

Ans: Cryptography plays a critical role in defending your digital assets from hackers by encrypting them as we move towards a digital economy.

4. What are Ciphers?

Ans: Ciphering is the process of transforming data into an unreadable format. In other words, it is an algorithm that is responsible for data encryption and decryption.

5. What is a Key?

Ans: A Key in cryptography is a piece of data that is used in combination with an algorithm (a cypher) to convert plaintext to ciphertext (encryption) and vice versa (decryption).
