on page optimization

On page SEO (search engine optimization) means optimizing pages on your website to build better rankings and user experience. It is the opposite of off-page SEO.

What is On Page Optimization?

On page optimization explains all steps taken by SEOs within the website to stepping up the rank of a website on the result page of any search engine. These methods are related to a page's content and HTML source code, for instance, meta tags, keyword placement, and density of keywords.

In the case of on page optimization, we only deal with the elements that we govern.

Among the many methods used to enhance on page optimization, the following are the most common and essential.

Title tag

The title tag introduces the content. We can use relevant keywords in the title tag to represent our thought process. They can assist users and search engines in interpreting the content and improve its ranking on the search engines.

Meta Description Tag

The meta description tag includes the page's summary or gist. It is generally displayed on the search engine page below the URL. We can include keywords in this tag to make it more understandable for the audience and search engines. This can significantly increase the reach with more clicks and relevancy factors.

H1 Tag

The H1 title also serves as a heading. It also gives the introduction of the page or describes the content of the page. We should include the main keywords in the H1 tag to upscale rankings.

The Page Length

The users generally demand detailed information about the topics. For the same reason, Search engines rank according to the size of the document. Lengthy documents are ranked higher by Search Engines. We can make sure that our content covers all aspects of the topic.

Canonical Tag

A canonical tag is used when we have two URLs with matching content. We should use this tag to ensure that the issue of duplicate content is resolved. It notifies Google that one URL is equivalent to another, so the two pages with the same content are not entirely different and belong to the original page.

Image Optimization

This is one of the most important aspects of SEO, where we optimize the images by using alt text, caption, description, and more details about the picture. It is a wise practice to name the photos related to their content. For instance, instead of calling the image image1.png, name the image as computer.png.

Content Updates

Search engines are more friendly with freshly updated content. So, keep adding updating information to the site and add more content to the old pages if required.

Outbound Links

You can use outbound links to direct the users to another website if you want to provide more information. These links serve as a trust factor for google. It would help if you remembered that although outbound links serve a great purpose, we should not use them excessively.

Internal Links

You can use the strategy of interlinking your pages. It is of great use as traffic from one page may be diverted to other pages, to which the users have less access.

Keyword in URL

The URL should contain the relevant keywords. It is also a method to make the relevancy factor significant.

Sitemap

You can make a Sitemap for your site. It assists search engines in indexing all pages on your website, which is a part of SEO.

Google Search Console Integration

You should try to verify your site at Google Webmaster Tool. It gives valuable data that We can use to optimize your website.

Content of Page

The content of your page should be related to the keywords and headings. It should convey the required information, and its length should be appropriate.

Content Formatting

The content should be well formatted and presented nicely. These are the steps to achieve so.

  • Use Bold Italics Underline to highlight important information.
  • Use a suitable font size. 14px is preferred.
  • Take care of the required spacing.
  • Use CSS to make the content presentable.

Images and Multimedia Elements

The images need not be huge as it tends to increase the loading time of your page, which is a negative aspect of SEO.

URL Optimization

URL optimization and URL structure are two ways to optimize a URL.

The URL of a page is also called a slug. It is a permanent link. An optimized URL should fulfill the following characteristics-

  • It should be less than 255 characters.
  • Hyphens '-' should separate the different parts of the URL
  • It should be short but descriptive.
  • It includes your target keywords.

Internal Links

Interlinking the web pages of a website is crucial for SEO. It enables you to make your network. It increases the time of users on your page. A search engine spider tends to follow the links found on a page, both internal and external links. If a page is deficient in relations, the spider will read your page and go. This is not the best-case scenario for SEO.

External Links

External links are widely used for SEO as they enable you to link your website to other high-quality authentic websites. It makes your site more trustworthy and relatable, which is good for SEO.
