Introduction

Our world has come a long way from the first game released in 2000, which allowed its players to interact with each other in the gaming environment, to people living an alternate version of themselves in the virtual world, buying digital dresses, trading in cryptocurrencies as a genuine form of money and collecting digital art in NFTs(Non-fungible tokens). This blog will cover all about Sandbox, a virtual play-to-earn blockchain-based game.

What is Sandbox?

Sandbox is a virtual play-to-earn blockchain-based game that allows players to create and customise their character, their game, buy digital assets, etc. The sandbox allows the monetising of virtual goods as NFTs and sells them for SAND tokens through the Sandbox marketplace. Sandbox is an Ethereum based virtual game that helps players earn digital currency/ tokens for unleashing their creativity in designing their avatars, other gaming items and virtual land and assets. It features multiple games, environments and hubs, forming the sandbox metaverse.

More about Sandbox

The Sandbox project was launched in 2011 under Pixowl by Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget. It was mobile-based gaming and competed against Minecraft. With the evolution of Blockchain and the rising popularity of the Metaverse concept, the co-founders capitalised on creating a 3D metaverse on the Ethereum blockchain. Sandbox is now considered a blockchain-based Minecraft powered by Decentralised Finances.

The game's primary goal is to let the users explore the metaverse ecosystem and earn based on their creations as NFTs. The Sandbox project is the fast-growing and the most popular game in the crypto world. Its popularity has gained over 50 partnerships like Atari, a famous gaming company, hip-hop star Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, and CryptoKitties. The sandbox allows players to create and build their own NFTs in the form of characters/ avatars, goods, and even games using inbuilt software like VoxEdit and Game Maker.

VoxEdit

VoxEdit is an inbuilt user-friendly software for users to animate and create voxel-based NFTs. Voxels are the building blocks, just like popular lego blocks used to create different toys and characters. Users are free to unleash their creativity by creating equipment, clothing, weapons, animals, greenery, sky, river, tools, and other goods. These NFTs can then be exported and sold on the Sandbox marketplace for SAND, i.e. digital currency/ token.

Game Maker

Game Maker is another tool that lets users create and test their 3D games within the metaverse. The software is user friendly and needs no prior coding knowledge. Users can design and assemble different components, including VoxEdit based NFTs, in an environment called LAND.

The Sandbox marketplace

The marketplace supports various tokens in the metaverse ecosystem, such as SAND, LAND, and ASSETS. SAND is an ERC-20 based token with a supply limit of 3 billion SAND. It plays a significant role in interacting with other users, trading NFTs, building and customising avatars, and buying LAND. Everything needs players to own SAND. Users in possession of SAND can propose, vote, and together change the regulations of the game and platform in general.

ASSETS are the NFTs created by the users. ASSETS can be in the form of avatars, equipment, weapons, trees, river, sky, mountains, clothes, anything used in the metaverse. These ASSETS are created using VoxEdit and sold on the Sandbox marketplace.

LANDs are digital pieces of property on the sandbox metaverse. Users can build and establish their form of the game along with unique ASSETS using the Game Maker tool. Multiple LANDs combine to form ESTATE, with a maximum possible size of 24x24. One meter in the Sandbox platform is equivalent to 32x32x32 voxel cubes.

How can you earn this currency?

SAND currency can be bought on crypto exchanges like Binance.

1. Log in to your Binance account and click Trade at the top bar to go to the classic or advanced trading page. In this tutorial, we will select Classic.

2. Go to the right side of the screen, and type "SAND" on the search bar to open up a list of the available SAND trading pairs. Let's use SAND/BUSD as an example. Click on "SAND/BUSD" to open its trading page.

3. Scroll down to the Spot box and enter the amount of SAND you want to buy. You can select different order types to buy SAND (e.g., market order). Click Buy SAND to place the order. The SAND you purchased will be credited to your Spot Wallet.
