The path of progress took an unexpected turn for Java users when Google Chrome stopped supporting NPAPI. This change affected the browser’s support for Java also. Since version 42, the Chrome browsers do not support Java.

But there is still hope for you to enable Java in Google Chrome in 2023. One such way is to use the IE Tab Chrome extension or a special applet viewer like CheerpJ.

  • Finally, go to security and privacy settings to enable Java in Chrome.
     
  • Find the content section and turn on the switch that allows sites to use Javascript.

Java support in Mozilla Firefox

Although Firefox is known as the guardian of your Cookies, it no longer supports Java in its current versions. The last version of Firefox with Java support is version 51.

But this does not mean you can no longer run Java applications in Firefox.

To enable Javascript, you can follow the steps given below.

  • Open Firefox and click on the applications menu in the upper left-hand corner.
     
  • From the menu, go to the Tools option and click on Plugins/Add-ons.
     
  • You can also open a new tab in the Firefox browser and type “about:addons” in the address bar.
     
  • Next, find the Java (TM) platform SE 6 U23 plugin in the List. Click on Enable, ask to Activate, or Always Activate to activate it.
     
  • If you want to enable JavaScript instead, type “about:config” in the address bar.
     
  • Accept the warning messages and search “Javascript.enabled”. Right Click on it and toggle to enable it.
     
  • Restart the Firefox browser, and you are good to go.

Microsoft Edge and Java

Similar to other browsers, Microsoft Edge also does not have Java built-in. Thus Java Applets are not easily accessible in Edge.

But fret not. You can still use Edge as a launching platform for Internet Explorer. By enabling Internet Explorer mode in Edge settings, you can open websites in Internet Explorer, which supports Java.

How to enable Java in Microsoft Edge?

You can access Java Applets by using Internet Explorer within the Edge browser. To enable JavaScript in Microsoft, you can follow the steps given below.

  • Open the Group Policy editor on your computer.
     
  • Go to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components

  • Save the changes and exit the Group Policy editor.

To enable Java in Windows 10 with IE, follow the steps below.

  • Open IE.
     
  • Click on “Tools” in the top-right corner and select “Internet options.”
     
  • Go to the “Security” tab in the Internet Options window.
     
  • Click on “Custom Level.”
     
  • Find the “Scripting of Java Applets” item in the List and enable the button. Click “OK”.

Opera is always known for its enhanced modular design. The Opera One browser supports Java by embedding a version of Java within it.

How to enable Java in Windows 10 with Opera?

Follow the steps to enable Java in Opera One:

  • Open Opera One.
     
  • Go to browser settings.
     
  • Find the security and privacy option and search for Java.
