What is the Analyst-Inv Performance & Risk responsible for?

Primary function of this role is calculate, analyze and report portfolio performance, characteristics, weights, and attribution and risk statistics and troubleshoot any issues encountered. Analysis will provide support to measure investment risk and let investment management teams take informed decision on investments in Franklin Templeton funds. Support will be provided by liaising with other Risk teams as well as key clients Global Advisory Services, Risk Managers/Consultants, Investment Analysts/Managers and Investment teams/Portfolio Managers.

What are the ongoing responsibilities?

Performance and Risk Analysis:
Run and review risk and performance reports on daily and monthly basis for accuracy and data and risk outlier issues to investigate and escalate if needed.
Ensure all risk report output is ready to go and loaded correctly before official monthly data release.
Update and maintain databases to ensure data accuracy.
Check if generated risk data is reasonable relative to manager-reported estimates and empirical data.
Liaison with Technology, Client Service, Marketing, and other teams to build new specs, and provide risk reporting, and resolve/escalate issues that come up.

Client Support
Provide recurring monthly/weekly/daily risk reports.
Respond to ad-hoc data requests around risk and performance information.

Technical Support
Identify areas that can be enhanced/automated within processes and build logic/flow of proposed automation.
Propose and discuss enhancement ideas with broader impacted group within team.
Automate processes with strategic/tactical solutions to keep business as usual with help of VBA/SQL.
If required, troubleshoot technical issues encountered within process.
Work with relevant individuals within and outside teams.

Remain current on performance related trends, topics and issues.

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
Bachelor degree in Finance/Math and/or MBA.
Completion or progression towards CFA/FRM/CIPM is desirable
4-5 years of experience in Mutual Fund / Financial services industry.
Knowledge of statistical calculations.
Knowledge of financial instruments and markets.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office:
Access: Intermediary
Excel and Excel Formulas: Advanced
Experience in writing and troubleshooting codes based on VBA/SQL.
Ability to connect databases with Excel.

It is desirable to have:
Experience in investment performance, investment operations or fund accounting.
Experience in Risk and Performance systems like, Factset, Barra, Morningstar, and Bloomberg.
Knowledge of GIPS Performance Presentation Standards.
Knowledge of source systems for data and ability to verify for accuracy.
