    Business Role: Database Administrator COG Tech

    Macquarie's business is structured into six operating groups and four service groups. The Technology division within Macquarie's Corporate Operations Group is responsible for the management of Macquarie's technology infrastructure, the support and development of existing business systems and the delivery and deployment of new systems, technologies and services. It comprises business aligned teams which provide dedicated and specialist services to businesses as well as central teams which provide shared services, such as infrastructure, to multiple businesses.

    Within the Technology Division, the platform delivery team enables Macquarie's global activities by undertaking the design and implementation of IT infrastructure related projects and support of the platform. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering solutions and support for Macquarie's evolving database environment as part of a global team. The database environment is complex, with three primary RDBMS platforms being supported: Oracle, MSSQL, and Sybase running on Solaris, Linux and Windows platforms. While the position is expected to focus on Oracle technologies, the candidate may be expected to provide support for a secondary platform (either Sybase, MSSQL, or Postgres). In addition to providing Operational support for production and non- production servers, other responsibilities include deploying, upgrading and maintaining the database fleet, providing feedback on the health of the environment and creating automation for repeatable requirements.

    The position suits a highly skilled Oracle DBA who has a strong interest in career advancement in a technical stream this is not a team lead or managerial position. The candidate would be required to work on a roster together with a number of DBAs located in Manila, Sydney, London and Houston.

    Core Responsibilities:

    Building and maintaining sound working relationships with the Macquarie business users and the wider global IT team

    Providing first- class relational database management systems support

    Work quickly and effectively to resolve or escalate production Sybase, Oracle or SQL issues at the first sign of detection using agreed monitoring and resolution processes

    Determination of failure trends and root- cause

    Being accountable for the technical delivery of database projects and database support

    Involvement in disaster recovery planning and testing when required

    Involvement in the automation and manual executions of database system builds, installations, provisioning, deployment

    Ongoing upgrade and maintenance of database versioning

    Ensuring that database systems are built to Macquarie standards and with existing fleet meeting our compliance standards

    Ensuring optimum performance and availability ofMacquarie's database systems

    Ability to view current processes and procedures as opportunities for enhancement, tuning and improvement

    Participation in scheduled weekend and after- hours work when requested

    Participation in providing on- call support when required

    Other tasks to support the Platforms Database Service in MacquarieEssential Experience and Characteristics:

    A Senior level Oracle Database Administrator, with a DevOps mindset who has a strong interest in career advancement in a technical stream

    Ability to work independently and strong sense of ownership

    Have an automate first mindset

    Customer- focused with good verbal and written communication skills

    Ability to troubleshoot complex database problems when escalations from the DBA Operations team occur

    An ability to undertake shifted work patterns to cover a 24x7 environment

    Be a strong, dynamic character, capable of dealing effectively with colleagues and business users working in a constantly evolving environment

    Ability to work as part of a regional team across multiple countries, cultures and time- zones

    A quick- thinking problem solver, able to assimilate data rapidly in order to present solutions to day- to- day incidents

    Be able to remain calm under pressure and when faced with adversity or urgent issues

    A self- starter with assumption of responsibility for a range of activities and tasks

    Experience with code development products /practices like stash /git /branching /agile and JIRA

    Knowledge of ITIL practices and demonstrable experience with change management processes and proceduresCore skills:

    Oracle RAC and experience with 11g and 12c

    Skills in Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)

    Proven understanding of the Oracle Database architecture and internals

    Experience supporting Oracle Grid Infrastructure, RAC and ASM

    Experience customising Oracle Enterprise Manager to deliver support

    Thorough knowledge of performing RMAN database restoration under a variety of different scenarios and the information required to support restoration

    Experience patching and rollback of Oracle Grid Infrastructure and Databases.

    Troubleshooting incidents through OEM, Database and Cluster logs

    Evidence based review of Application, Database, OS and Hardware with clear communication of bottlenecks within a systemOther skills (in at least one of the following):

    Experience of working within a DevOps team providing 24x7 support for over 100 databases per support DBA

    Programming experience with C /C++, Python, Java, and /or demonstrable open- source contributions

    Experience with supporting partitioned databases over 10TB in size

    Experience supporting Postgres

    Strong Unix /Linux skills

    Scripting, in Perl and Shell

    Public /Private Cloud Administration (e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
