A Director of Engineering, you will be a core member of the Kolabtree’s startup team driving business growth. Our goal is to achieve exponential growth each year by leveraging technology, and you will build and scale the platform to drive this growth. Kolabtree has a large-scale and ambitious product roadmap, and we’re looking for someone who can execute it based on superior technical know-how, smart decision-making and prioritization, creative resourcing, and a deep desire to build a world-class product.


  • Execute product roadmap and drive business growth: Collaborate with multiple business stakeholders to understand user behavior, link technology plan to business needs, and flexibly manage priorities
  • Build and manage team: Drive recruitment and achieve high velocity with a small but high-performing agile team of product managers, UX folks, and developers
  • Be creative and flexible with resourcing: Rapidly build additional, flexible capacity to boost velocity by using outsourcing vendors and freelancers when needed
  • Plan ahead: Manage and allocate tech activities so that the roadmap is executed within agreed timelines
  • Decide when to hack or invest: Know when to just hack a solution and when to prioritize scalable or long-term solutions
  • Do whatever it takes: Leverage third-party tools & APIs, introduce new frameworks & best practices, and adopt new technologies & design thinking to build the application out smartly
  • Mentor team to build up their technical skills and be their problem-solver of last resort
  • Switch between immediate needs and long-term plans and kill two birds with one stone wherever possible
  • Make sure user experience is continually optimized and that users don’t face obvious tech problems like slow speed, functionality that doesn’t work as advertised, etc.


  • Candidates with experience working with product-based companies or e-commerce startups
  • Must have strong fundamental understanding of Agile development practices
  • Must have strong system design principles with keen eye for non-functional requirements like performance, security, resilience, and cost management
  • Must be willing to put product above technology and choose the right tools for the job, displaying agility and a can-do attitude
  • Must be a champion of building world-class products with hands-on approach to leading development
  • Experience in various aspects of product and software development, including product planning, project planning, recruitment, and team management
  • Strongly preferred: experience in newer technologies like graph databases, natural language processing, and machine learning will be strongly preferred
  • Good to have: experience with .Net stack (including .Net Core & Azure PaaS) OR experience with different tech stacks
  • Experience working with distributed teams in different locations and time zones
  • Location: Pune/Mumbai preferred
