Engineer – Mechanical
Job Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Structural Analysis and Design:
- Perform structural analysis using FEA tools to assess mechanical integrity under operational and extreme conditions.
- Conduct dynamic analysis of missile airframes for various flight and impact profiles.
- Evaluate structural components for fatigue life, resonance, and shock loads in compliance with MIL-STD-810.
- Collaborate with design teams to iterate structural geometry for optimal strength-to-weight ratio.
- Review structural validation results and recommend design modifications.
Materials Engineering:
- Lead material testing initiatives, including tensile, fatigue, impact, and corrosion testing of alloys and composites.
- Select materials for high-stress and high-temperature applications, considering defense-specific performance needs.
- Conduct failure analysis (fractography, metallography, etc.) to identify root causes of mechanical breakdown.
- Coordinate with suppliers and labs for procurement and certification of materials meeting defense standards.
- Recommend advanced coatings, treatments, or bonding strategies for component durability.
Mechanical CAD Design & Simulation:
- Design complex mechanical systems and components using 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
- Create detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings, applying GD&T and defense-compliant tolerances.
- Perform thermal and structural simulations to assess the reliability of designs.
- Optimize enclosure designs for RF transparency, EMI shielding, and environmental sealing.
- Develop modular assemblies for easy maintenance and field replaceability.
Mechanical System Integration:
- Lead the integration of missile mechanical components into vehicle platforms and ground systems.
- Design and implement mounting strategies that isolate shock and vibration.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, including grounding, shielding, and chassis design.
- Coordinate mechanical-electrical interfaces with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Ensure system-level mechanical alignment and tolerance stack-up compliance.
Assembly & Mechanical Fitment:
- Supervise and perform assembly of mechanical sub-systems including missile structural components, and precision mechanisms.
- Verify geometric and weight tolerances, including CG (center of gravity) measurements for integrated systems.
- Develop and refine assembly procedures to reduce error and improve consistency.
- Apply heat dissipation strategies (e.g., heat sinks, airflow optimization, thermal interface materials) in high-power assemblies.
- Ensure all work follows defense QA standards and traceability requirements.
Tooling & Fabrication Oversight:
- Identify tooling requirements for complex assembly and testing processes.
- Oversee the use of mechanical tools, jigs, and fixtures during production.
- Recommend tool improvements for enhanced ergonomics and safety.
- Approve tool calibration cycles and ensure traceability.
- Support decisions on in-house vs. outsourced fabrication based on complexity and cost.
Maintenance & Sustainment Engineering:
- Lead preventive and corrective actions/maintenance for mechanical components in deployed systems.
- Develop upgrade kits and retrofitting solutions for fielded platforms.
- Diagnose failures during routine checks and develop repair strategies.
- Maintain maintenance logs and revision-controlled documentation.
- Collaborate with logistics and field teams to ensure availability of spares and tools.
Standards Compliance & Safety:
- Interpret and apply defense standards including ASTM, AMS, IS, ISO, MIL-STD in design and testing.
- Ensure environmental, ergonomic, and operational compliance of all mechanical components.
- Lead implementation of mechanical safety protocols in assembly and testing zones.
- Review and approve documentation related to risk assessments, hazard analysis, and PPE usage with safety precautions.
Team Mentoring & Technical Reviews:
- Guide junior engineers and technicians on best practices for assembly, testing, and documentation.
- Review peer designs and provide constructive feedback during design and gate reviews.
- Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and develop SOPs for repeatable tasks.
- Promote a safety-first culture and encourage continuous improvement in mechanical processes.
Technical Documentation:
- Generate and review technical documents such as design reports, test plans, and compliance checklists.
- Preparation of MDI,BOM, IPD and QAP etc
- Maintain engineering change logs, ECN/DCRs, and part qualification records.
- Ensure clarity, accuracy, and completeness of installation manuals and maintenance guides.
- Support proposal or bid documentation with mechanical input and specifications.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Background:
- BE or ME in Mechanical Engineering.
Work Experience:
- 5-8 years of experience in mechanical design, integration, and validation of complex assemblies.
Industry Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing tolerances, stress analysis, FEA, and environmental qualification. Exposure to precision fabrication and documentation systems like PLM.
Education
UG:B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical
