Job Description

Production Manager for the Large Caliber Ammunition Manufacturing Plant oversees all aspects of production, from planning and scheduling to quality control and safety, ensuring the plant operates efficiently and effectively while meeting production goals and quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, and safety regulations specific to the ammunition industry.


Role & responsibilities

Safety Compliance:

The production manager is responsible to enforce safety protocols and procedures to protect employees and maintain a safe working environment. He is responsible for complying with prescribed fire prevention and hygiene rules. Ensure that all operatives are well trained in fire drill and in the use of fire extinguishers and alarms.


Quality Compliance:

Ensure adherence to quality standards, implement quality control measures, and coordinate corrective actions to address any quality issues promptly.


Team Leadership and Production Monitoring:

Supervise and motivate production personnel, including shop floor leads, to achieve production goals and maintain a high level of performance. Compliance monitoring and implementation of prescribed work instructions, procedures and safety rules to ensure that all products meet established quality standards and that proper quality control procedures are followed.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement:

Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize costs. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Address production issues promptly and effectively, collaborating with cross-functional teams to find solutions.

KPI Monitoring & Communication:

Monthly communication and briefing to the team about safety regulations and compliances, technical briefing and performance of the Large Caliber Ammunition manufacturing process. The manager shall Monitor production performance, analyze key metrics, and report findings to management.

Training and Development:

Ensure training for the newly hired people and maintain skill matrix for all operatives, encourage and ensure multi-skilling of employees.

Stakeholder Management:

Work closely with other departments, such as engineering, quality control, and supply chain, to align production activities with overall business goals.

Workplace Management:

Co-ordinate and ensure maintenance of all manufacturing equipments including painting line, screw filling line and support equipments with maintenance function, ensure machine health check as per defined frequency and check list.

Ensure that all alarms, sensors, mistake proofing devices, moving and friction parts are inspected and maintained in good working condition for machine operation.

Ensure full cleaning of explosives material in screw filling line before machine is handed over for any repair and maintenance work, ensure that a valid maintenance work order / permit is issued for such work.


Preferred candidate profile

Must:

  • BE / Diploma in Chemical / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with quality control standards and methodologies, including statistical process control (SPC).

Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and best practices, including HAZOP analysis.


Must:

  • BE - Minimum of 12 years related experience
  • Deep understanding of large Caliber ammunition manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials.

Desirable:

  • Ability to motivate, guide, and develop a team of production personnel.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage production activities effectively.
  • A thorough understanding of the properties, handling, and safety procedures related to explosives and ammunition.

Familiarity with relevant software, such as manufacturing execution systems (MES) and ERP systems.
