Test Engineer
Job Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Electrical and Electronic System Testing:
- Lead the planning and execution of functional, performance, and reliability tests for complex electrical and electronic subsystems.
- Validate missile avionic subsystems and interface modules under operational and environmental loads (thermal, vibration, humidity).
- Interpret test data and determine conformance with performance criteria, creating actionable insights for design and production teams.
- Develop custom test setups using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes for hardware-in-loop (HIL) testing.
Circuit Design Analysis and Test Planning:
- Analyze detailed electronic schematics, including mixed-signal and embedded system layouts, to derive effective testing strategies.
- Lead efforts in signal path tracing, bus communication validation (e.g., I2C, SPI, CAN), and analog signal integrity verification.
- Propose improvements in circuit testability, suggest design-for-test (DFT) modifications, and ensure comprehensive coverage of test cases.
- Validate pin-to-pin harnesses, grounding schemes, and shielding as per aerospace and defense standards.
System/Sub-System Testing & Telemetry Validation:
- Develop end-to-end validation protocols for telemetry chains, including signal integrity verification, decoding, and data analytics.
- Execute tests aligned with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC), JSS 55555, and other defense standards.
- Lead EMI/EMC test campaigns in accredited labs and interpret results in the context of system-level performance.
- Analyze telemetry logs for fault trends, signal corruption, or performance degradation under stress conditions.
- Coordinate with embedded and RF teams to troubleshoot signal flow and hardware-data interface mismatches.
- Perform Acceptance tests and qualifications tests as per the ATP/QTP/QAP.
Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis:
- Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving tools like Fishbone Diagrams, 5 Whys, Fault Tree Analysis, and 7 QC tools.
- Resolve intermittent faults and cross-domain issues (e.g., mechanical-electrical interface failures) using multidisciplinary approaches.
- Mentor junior team members on troubleshooting workflows, escalation protocols, and safe handling of high-voltage/high-current modules.
- Interface with design and integration teams to close the loop on failure modes and improve next-gen platform reliability.
Safety Compliance and Lab Protocol Enforcement:
- Implement and enforce electrical safety policies in compliance with IEC, IS, and internal defense safety standards.
- Train team members on safe work practices including use of PPE, ESD-safe handling, and energized system interaction protocols.
- Review and approve high-risk test plans involving power modules, explosive devices (where applicable), or autonomous system activation.
Documentation and Quality Control:
- Review and approve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test reports, and compliance documents for testing and validation activities.
- Ensure that test documentation meets internal QA, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead document audits, manage revision histories, and support customer review processes with well-organized data packs.
Test Automation and Data Analytics:
- Design and deploy automated test benches using NI LabVIEW, Python, or MATLAB for repetitive testing and data logging.
- Implement data acquisition systems (DAQs) for real-time monitoring and logging of electrical parameters during tests.
- Leverage data analytics tools to identify long-term trends, failure patterns, and statistical deviations in subsystem performance.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Firmware, Mechanical, and RF teams to align testing methodologies and synchronize subsystem integration timelines.
- Participate in design reviews, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and interface control meetings to ensure testability from design inception.
- Act as a liaison with vendors or certifying bodies during qualification, certification, or field test events.
Field Trials and Deployment Support:
- Support on-site missile system trials, including instrumentation setup, telemetry system validation, and post-trial data debriefs.
- Troubleshoot live field anomalies and coordinate with command-and-control or launch platform teams for fast turnarounds.
- Document lessons learned and feed critical insights into design iterations or system-level risk mitigation plans.
