Ways freshers can grow in a new job
Congratulations on your new job!
You must have already planned the ways you will follow to excel in your new role. If you haven’t done it yet, we advise you to consider it as the most important plan of action. The business landscape is changing so fast that it may seem challenging to stay focused and handle situations. However, if you won’t shift along with it, there is a potential risk of becoming irrelevant.
Below are some useful tips that can help you to thrive in your new job.
Stay in sync with the tasks
Freshers need to develop skills to create more opportunities for themselves. This can be done within an organization as well. Understand how your company works, know its mission and vision and how you fit into the larger scheme of things. Shift your energy to what is important than wasting time over unimportant matters. If you don’t know where to begin, don’t delay to connect with your manager for the right direction. The payoff will come in the longer run.
Set goals
Start with setting short term goals. Go step by step to streamline the things and understand the time and effort you will need to achieve them. Set parameters to measure accomplishments. Simultaneously, it is also important that you get these goals vetted by a senior or an immediate supervisor. It will also acquaint them with your aspirations and they may involve you in something bigger and better which can foster your professional development and growth.
Be a part of discussions
Being a part of any discussion does not mean to just be physically present in a meeting. You should also participate and share your opinion or ideas about the concerned topic. Show your zeal towards the achievement of common business objectives.
Ask for feedback
Schedule some time with your manager to understand the feedback on a particular project or task. When you actively ask for the inputs, you learn faster and can get relevant and contextual information to support growth at a job. It will also help you to understand the areas of improvement and shows your enthusiasm and seriousness about the given role.
Don’t expect results overnight
Do not keep pondering over whether you have delivered good or bad as this can lead to anxiety. Simply submit the work you were expected to complete and wait for the feedback as it will come in the stipulated time frame. Don’t get after your managers or keep pinging them all the time to connect with you. Understand their set of responsibilities too.
Don’t lose the sight
You may feel highly motivated and super charged as this could be your first job. However, there may be times when you might experience hurdles or feel doubtful. This makes it crucial to keep a track of tasks and accomplishments to not to lose the progress and remain committed.
Gain new skills
While you are already receiving the on-job training, it is also a good idea to brush up your existing skills or gain new skills via upskilling. By now, you must have understood your strengths and areas of improvement. Accordingly, build a plan to pick up new skills and start working on it. You may want to enroll for an online certification course to advance your career.
