Journey
My journey from learning the basics to reaching the final interview round at Amdocs has been full of growth. I strengthened my core concepts, worked on projects, and gained practical experience through internships. After clearing the online assessment, the technical interview focused on my internships and DBMS concepts. The HR round covered my hobbies, interests beyond academics, and role-specific questions. Although I couldn’t make it through the final round, the experience taught me a lot and boosted my confidence. Every step, including this one, has been a learning milestone that brought me closer to my goals.
Application story
The application journey for Amdocs began when our campus shared a form to collect interest for the Software Testing Engineer role. After submitting the form, shortlisted candidates were invited to take an online assessment conducted by the company. Based on the performance in the assessment, selected students were called for further rounds which included a technical interview followed by an HR interview. The entire process—from application to interviews—was conducted smoothly through our campus placement cell.
Why selected/rejected for the role?
Although I successfully cleared the technical round, I was rejected after the HR round due to a lack of confident communication and not aligning my answers well with the role. This experience taught me the importance of clear self-presentation, understanding the job expectations, and being prepared beyond technical knowledge.

The interview was scheduled during the evening hours, so the timing was quite comfortable. The environment was calm and professional, conducted virtually, and everything went smoothly without any technical issues. There were no significant activities apart from the scheduled interview process.

1. Alphabetical Character Frequency

Asked in companies
HSBCAmdocs

Write a program in C or C++ that takes a string as input and prints the frequency of each character (case-sensitive) in alphabetical order. Ignore spaces.

Problem approach

1.Use getline() to read the full string including spaces.
2.We use a map to count character frequencies. Since the problem is case-sensitive, we consider both uppercase and lowercase separately.
3.Ignore spaces, and update the frequency count for each character.
4.Since map stores keys in sorted order, iterating through it gives characters in alphabetical order (uppercase first, then lowercase).

The focus was primarily on my previous internships and academic projects. The interviewer asked me to explain the objective of my projects, the technologies used, my specific contributions, and the challenges I faced during development. They were particularly interested in how I applied practical knowledge and solved real-world problems. In addition to project-related questions, I was also asked about core technical concepts, mainly from DBMS. Some basic concepts from Operating Systems were also touched upon. The interviewer was polite and encouraging throughout the conversation, which made me feel comfortable and confident. Overall, the round felt more like an in-depth discussion about my learning and experiences rather than a strict question-and-answer session.

The HR round at Amdocs was a friendly and conversational session conducted after the technical interview. It focused on understanding me as a person beyond my technical skills. The HR asked questions about my hobbies, interests outside of academics, and how I usually spend my free time. They also discussed my willingness to relocate, adaptability to different work environments, and future goals. A few questions were related to the job profile, such as why I was interested in the Software Testing Engineer role and how I see myself growing in this position. The HR representative was very polite and made the environment comfortable, which helped ease any nervousness. Overall, the round was about assessing communication skills, cultural fit, and enthusiasm for the role and the company.
