Interview preparation journey

Journey
In my first year, I began learning coding. As per the syllabus, I started with C in my first semester and then moved on to C++. In my second year, I delved into Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) and simultaneously practised on platforms like Coding Ninjas. I also engaged in competitive coding on multiple platforms. At the onset of my third year, I commenced preparation for placements, focusing on DSA. Additionally, I ventured into frontend development, acquiring skills and building projects. Despite facing rejection from Ericsson without knowing the reason, I persisted with my preparation. Eventually, my efforts paid off, and I secured offers from two companies.
Application story
This company visited my college for an on-campus recruitment drive consisting of three rounds. The first round was an aptitude test, two technical rounds, and finally, a combined HR and technical interview. I gave my best effort throughout the process, but unfortunately, I was not selected. I’m unsure of the reason for my rejection.
Why selected/rejected for the role?
I gave my best in each round of the interview, answering all the questions confidently. Although the interview was challenging, I felt well-prepared and performed to the best of my ability. Despite this, I was not selected in the end. Nonetheless, I remain positive and view this as a valuable learning experience for future opportunities.

Coding problem3

The aptitude test was 45 minutes long, consisting of a total of 45 questions. The test was divided into three sections: English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning, with 15 questions in each section.

There was a sectional cut-off, meaning that candidates needed to achieve a minimum score in each section to pass. Time management was crucial, as it was important to allocate time wisely across all three sections to meet the cut-offs. The test allowed for switching between sections, which provided flexibility in tackling the questions.

1. Identify the part of the sentence that contains an error:

"Each of the students was given a chance to speak during the assembly."

A) Each of the students
B) were given
C) a chance to speak
D) during the assembly

Problem approach

Answer: B) were given

Explanation:
The error lies in subject-verb agreement. The subject "Each of the students" is singular, so it should be followed by a singular verb. The correct sentence should be: "Each of the students was given a chance to speak during the assembly."

2. Puzzle

If the price of an item is increased by 20% and then decreased by 20%, what is the net percentage change in the price of the item?

A) 0%
B) 4% decrease
C) 4% increase
D) 10% decrease

Problem approach

Answer: B) 4% decrease

Explanation:
Let the original price be 100 units.

After a 20% increase, the price becomes
100
+
20
=
120
100+20=120 units.
After a 20% decrease in the new price, the price becomes
120

24
=
96
120−24=96 units.
The net change is
100

96
=
4
100−96=4 units, which is a 4% decrease from the original price.

3. Puzzle

If all roses are flowers, and some flowers are red, which of the following must be true?

A) All roses are red.
B) Some roses are red.
C) All flowers are roses.
D) None of the above.

Problem approach

Answer: D) None of the above.

Explanation:
The statements provided do not necessarily imply any of the options. "All roses are flowers" doesn't mean all flowers are roses, nor does it mean all or some roses must be red. The relationship between roses and red flowers cannot be determined solely from the information given. Thus, none of the options must be true.
