This was a technical Interview round based on Java and programming.

1. Java 8 Question

What are the new features in Java8?

Problem approach

1. Lambda Expressions
Lambda expression helps us to write our code in functional style. It provides a clear and concise way to implement SAM interface(Single Abstract Method) by using an expression. It is very useful in collection library in which it helps to iterate, filter and extract data.

2. Method References
Java 8 Method reference is used to refer method of functional interface . It is compact and easy form of lambda expression. Each time when you are using lambda expression to just referring a method, you can replace your lambda expression with method reference.

3. Optional
Java introduced a new class Optional in Java 8. It is a public final class which is used to deal with NullPointerException in Java application. We must import java.util package to use this class. It provides methods to check the presence of value for particular variable.

4. Default Methods
Java provides a facility to create default methods inside the interface. Methods which are defined inside the interface and tagged with default keyword are known as default methods. These methods are non-abstract methods and can have method body.

5. StringJoiner
Java added a new final class StringJoiner in java.util package. It is used to construct a sequence of characters separated by a delimiter. Now, you can create string by passing delimiters like comma(,), hyphen(-) etc.

2. Java 8 Question

Difference between Abstract Class and Interface in Java 8

Problem approach

the main difference between an abstract class and an interface in Java 8 is the fact that an abstract class is a class and an interface is an interface. A class can have a state which can be modified by non-abstract methods but an interface cannot have the state because they can't have instance variables.

The second difference is that an interface cannot have a constructor even in Java 8 but you may remember that abstract class can also have a constructor in Java. All methods of an interface were abstract but since Java 8 you can define non-abstract methods in the form of default and static methods inside the interface in Java.

3. Spring Boot Question

What is Dependency Injection in Spring?

Problem approach

Dependency Injection is a fundamental aspect of the Spring framework, through which the Spring container “injects” objects into other objects or “dependencies”.
Simply put, this allows for loose coupling of components and moves the responsibility of managing components onto the container.

You are given a sorted integer array 'arr' of size 'n'.

You need to remove the duplicates from the array such that each element appears only once.

Return the length of this new array.

Note:
Do not allocate extra space for another array. You need to do this by modifying the given input array in place with O(1) extra memory.

For example:
'n' = 5, 'arr' = [1 2 2 2 3].
The new array will be [1 2 3].
So our answer is 3.
Problem approach

1. Create an auxiliary array temp[] to store unique elements.

2. Traverse input array and one by one copy unique elements of arr[] to temp[]. Also keep track of count of unique elements. Let this count be j.

3. Copy j elements from temp[] to arr[] and return j.

Time Complexity : O(n)
Auxiliary Space : O(n)
