It was an early morning interview first 2 rounds were mandatory, the interviewer was very chill and made sure that I am comfortable talking to him.
First round is technical , they check your SQL knowledge , medium to difficult level SQL questions were asked
1) Find nth highest salary using 2-3 methods without using window function
2) Query to calculate cumulative/ running total without using window function
3) Write query to print customer retention matrix
4) Difference between group by and distinct
And a few resume based questions
1. DBMS Question
Find nth highest salary using 2-3 methods without using window function.
Problem approach
Tip 1 : You can use max
Tip 2 : You can't use top as the interviewer has suggested not to use top function
Tip 3 : You can't use windows function
2. DBMS Question
Query to calculate cumulative/ running total without using window function.
Problem approach
Tip 1 : You can use self join and calculate this answer.
Tip 2 : Don't use top / window function.
Tip 3 : Practice questions on self join.
3. DBMS Question
Write query to print customer retention matrix.
Problem approach
Tip 1 : Query can be found on google
Tip 2 : It's ok even if we are able to tell pseudo code
Tip 3 : Self join is to be used in this query
