Hi everyone, I’m Vinay Kumar B, and I’m here to share my experience cracking the Infosys System Engineer Trainee role during campus placements. This article is especially helpful for aspiring IT graduates aiming to land a role at Infosys. While my experience is from 2019, the core aspects of the selection process remain similar.

I’ll provide insights into the interview rounds, preparation tips, and valuable resources to help you ace your Infosys interview.

About Infosys System Engineer Trainee Role

The Infosys System Engineer Trainee role is an excellent gateway for fresh graduates into the IT industry. Infosys is a leading multinational IT services company, and this role equips you with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a dynamic tech environment.

After a comprehensive training program, you’ll be involved in various projects, gaining valuable experience in system administration, network management, and other IT domains.

Selection Process of Infosys

The Infosys campus recruitment process typically consists of two rounds:

  • Round 1: Aptitude Test
  • Round 2: Technical & HR Interview

Round 1: Aptitude Test (Preparation Tips)

The aptitude test assesses your proficiency in quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, basic computer science concepts, and pseudocode. Brush up on these fundamentals using resources like NCAT and online mock tests.

The test is usually time-bound, so practice solving questions quickly and accurately. Practice online mock tests to improve your speed and test-taking strategy. Don’t be afraid to leave questions. It’s better to focus on attempting questions you’re confident about rather than wasting time on those you’re unsure of.

My Experience in Round 1

I found the aptitude test to be moderately challenging. The quantitative aptitude section involved questions on percentages, averages, ratios, and basic algebra. Logical reasoning questions tested my puzzle-solving abilities and critical thinking skills. The verbal ability section assessed my grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

There were also some basic questions on computer science fundamentals like operating systems and data structures. By practicing mock tests beforehand, I felt comfortable and managed my time effectively.

Round 2: Technical & HR Interview (Preparation Tips)

  • Brush up on core CS concepts: Be prepared for fundamental questions on topics like operating systems, networking concepts (OSI model, TCP/IP), programming languages and basics (C, C++), and databases (SQL).
  • Highlight your projects and internships: If you have any relevant projects or internships on your resume, be prepared to discuss them in detail. Explain your role, the technologies used, and the challenges you faced.
  • Practice common HR questions: Prepare answers for common HR questions like “Tell me about yourself,” “Why Infosys?,” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” Be confident, and articulate, and showcase your passion for technology.

My Experience in Round 2

The technical and HR interview was a two-part process. The technical part focused on my understanding of core computer science concepts. The interviewer asked me technical questions about operating systems, networking basics, and programming fundamentals (as I mentioned C++ in my resume).

I explained the concepts clearly and provided examples from my academic projects. The HR part delved into my personality, career aspirations, and motivations. I highlighted my eagerness to learn, adaptability, and teamwork skills. The interview lasted around 30 minutes, and the atmosphere was friendly and encouraging.

Result and Offer

I was thrilled to receive the news that I had been selected for the Infosys System Engineer Trainee role! The offered package was 3.6 lakhs per annum.

Some additional tips and resources, that can prove to be handy for candidates are:

  • Familiarize yourself with Infosys’ work culture, values, and current projects. This demonstrates your genuine interest in the company.
  • Communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are crucial for success in the IT industry. Practice these skills through group discussions and mock interviews.
  • Keep yourself updated on the latest trends and technologies in the IT field. Read industry publications and online resources.
  • Maintain a professional LinkedIn profile that showcases your skills and achievements.

Cracking the Infosys System Engineer Trainee role requires dedication, preparation, and a positive attitude. By focusing on the core aspects of the selection process and leveraging the resources available, you can increase your chances of success. Remember, confidence, clarity, and a genuine passion for technology will shine through in your interview.
