E-Governance Initiatives in India

The establishment of NICNET, India's National Satellite-Based Computer Network, in 1987 provided the primary impetus for E-governance. This was followed by the inauguration of the national informatics center program's district information system, which digitized all district offices for the state government.

Bhoomi

The state of Karnataka initiated this initiative, which comprises the computerization of more than 200 treasuries throughout the state, mostly for the computerization of land record systems.

Khajane

The 'Khajane' project was implemented with the goal of providing details of expenditure to Drawing and Disbursing Officers, Controlling Officers, and Chief Controlling Officers for the purposes of reconciliation, restricting payments at treasuries to budget allocations and determining the government's Ways and Means position, among other things.

E-Seva

On a trial basis, E-Seva Kendras have been established in each State's High Courts and one District Court. It allows plaintiffs to get information about the progress of their cases as well as copies of judgments and orders. These locations can also assist with the e-filing of cases.

E-courts

The Digital India award was given to the E-Courts services mobile application as a revolutionary court information tool in the country. The Google Play Store and Apple App Store both include the eCourts Services mobile application. This mobile app provides access to case status, cause lists, and court orders, making these services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Government-to-Government (G2G)

The interaction between various government departments, corporations, and agencies are referred to as Government-to-Government. The efficiency of government processes improves as a result. 

• Using internet communication, government entities in G2G can share the same database.
• The government agencies can collaborate. This service has the potential to improve international discretion and relations.
  G2G services can be provided on a local or international scale. 
• It can communicate with both global and local governments.
• It also allows domestic and foreign governments to interact in a safe and secure manner.
• G2G creates a common database for all members to use in order to improve service.

Government-to-Employee (G2E)

The G2G section's internal component is the Government-to-Employee. It strives to unite staff and improve knowledge sharing.

•  It gives its staff access to internet resources.
•  Applying for leave, verifying salary payment records, and checking the number of holidays are all examples of similar tasks.

Human resource training and development are produced by the G2E sector. As a result, G2E is also the link between employees and government agencies.

Disadvantages of E-Governance

• The biggest disadvantage of e-governance is the lack of equity in public access to the internet, trustworthy information on the web, and hidden agendas of government entities that could have an impact and bias public perceptions.
