ReadyAPI licence

Ready API provides many tools for testing the API but not for free. In order to use the Ready API tools, users need to have a licence purchased.

Ready API Provides a trial and commercial licence for all of the functionalities and tools.

There are two types of licences available in Ready API:

🐻 SmartBear ID-based licence: In this type of licensing, no licence file is required to activate the Ready API. Users can use their SmartBear account to use the Ready API Tools.

🐻 File-Based licence: In this type of licensing the user needs to have a licence file installed on their computers. The user can either fetch the licence from the servers or they can pre-download the file.

In this blog, we are going to discuss File-based licences.

File-Based licence

Ready API provides different types of licences depending upon the need of the user. The licence type can be as follows:

💫 Trial licence: A 14-day trial period is provided by the ready API so that users can test the tools.

💫 Fixed licence: This licence can be used by a single user on a single machine. There is also a limit on how many times the user can switch machines.

💫 Floating licence: This licence can be used on multiple machines, but at any point in time only one will be allowed to use the Ready API.

Activation of licence

After successfully purchasing a licence it needs to get activated.

In this part of the blog, we are going to discuss how we can activate the licence based on its type.

Trial licence

If someone wants to experiment with the tool, they can opt for the 14-days trial using which they get all of the commercial benefits.

Follow the below steps to activate the trial licence:

1️⃣ From the SmartBear website, go to the Ready API page.

2️⃣ There will be a button saying "Start my Free Trial". Click on that button.

3️⃣ Fill out all the required details and click on Finish.

4️⃣ Download and install the Ready API on your computer and the 14 days trial period will start automatically.

Fixed licence

The fixed licence can get activated both online and offline. It is better to activate the licence online as it is much easier and faster.
In order to activate the licence online, you should allow access to the https://activation.smartbear.com website through the 80 and 443 ports.

1️⃣ From the help menu open the licence wizard.

2️⃣ Go to the activation tab.

3️⃣ Select online and click on finish.

Floating licence

A floating licence can be used to run Ready API on multiple computers. A floating licence server needs to be installed on the computer in order to use the floating licence.

Let's have a look at the installation steps of the floating licence server.

1️⃣ Get a licence file.

2️⃣ Install the licence server.

3️⃣ Connect to the licence server.

4️⃣ Install the licence and assign it to users.

Renew licence

♻️If the licence is about to expire the Ready API Software warns the user.

The licence can be renewed and It's quite easy to renew the licence using the Ready API software all you have to do is click on the Buy Renewal Button and the Ready API will open a Web Page from where the user can buy the licence.

Exporting and Importing the licence

The licence can also be exported or imported in order to switch the machine. When a product is deactivated, you export a licence by simply saving the licence data to a file. Once you have the file with the exported licence, you can use that file to activate the licence on a different computer.

Note: Only a Fixed licence can be exported.

An exported licence can be imported (activated) on another computer. Simply mention your exported licence file when activating the licence to accomplish this.

Deactivation of licence

A fixed licence is connected to the device on which it was activated. Until you deactivate your licence, you cannot use it on another computer. When a licence is deactivated, the licence data is removed from the computer and exported to a file, which can then be used to reactivate the licence on another computer.

🪜Follow the below steps to deactivate your licence.

1️⃣ Open up the licence manager from Ready API

2️⃣ From the licence manager menu click on Uninstall Licence Button.

3️⃣ Follow the on-screen instructions and click on Finish.

4️⃣ Your licence has successfully been deactivated.
