This article will discuss the two main marketing categories- traditional and digital. We will also discuss the main differences between them.

Traditional Marketing

Traditional marketing is the oldest method of marketing. It uses offline methods to promote the outcome of businesses. In this type of marketing, businesses use print media, direct mail, or phone calls. The different forms of print media include flyers, billboards, and newspapers. It is the most researched form of marketing. It is tried and tested.

We all encounter some form of traditional marketing in our daily lives. It can be in the form of newspapers or flyers you see when going to school, college, or work. 

Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing is the type of marketing where the internet gets involved. It is the online form of marketing where the internet is used to reach a wider audience.

With a broader audience, the popularity of products and services also increases. It can include various social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to advertise products or services.

Offline methods and print media are used to promote a business's products and services. Online methods and digital media is used. 
It does not involve the internet to perform marketing. Internet is required to perform digital marketing.
It includes print media like Newspapers, flyers, billboards, banners, TV advertisements, radio ads, broadcasts, and sponsorships.  Digital marketing includes using digital media like Facebook, Instagram, or other social media sites. It also includes SEO(search engine optimization), PPC(pay-per-click advertising), content marketing, web marketing, and email marketing.
It is not cost-efficient as compared to digital marketing. It is cost-efficient.
It is static.  It is dynamic.
It provides less rate of conversion from a prospect to leads. Since the digital market is data-driven, the ads can be personalized and shown to the key demographic. This improves the rate of conversion from prospects to leads. 
It isn't easy to measure. It is easier to measure with the help of analytical tools. 
Advertisements, once sent or posted, cannot be changed.  Changes can be made to posted ads in the case of digital marketing.
It has less customer engagement as compared to digital marketing.  It has more customer engagement because it is in digital form.
It isn't easy to calculate the return on investment.  With data in hand, you can calculate the return on investment quickly. 
With traditional marketing, customers cannot skip the ads.  It is possible for digital marketing.
It isn't easy to make the audience specific to the key demographics. It is easy to target the key demographics.
It is slow. The results take weeks or months. It is fast. The results can be seen easily and quickly. 
It is one-way communication. The companies or businesses advertise their products or services. 

It is two-way communication.

Consumers are also asked to provide feedback by writing reviews along with companies' advertisements. 

It has local or limited reach.  It is global and hence has a wider reach.
It does not make the ads personalized for consumers. The ads are personalized. It helps in providing a better user experience. It makes purchasing products or services easier for customers.
