Introduction

We all have seen tags for various products and services. Using labels to add information to content is a part of the tagging process. Similarly, tagging nodes is critical. By assigning tags to nodes, we can organise and execute tasks upon these nodes under predefined criteria.

This article will discuss the tagging nodes in puppet remediate. We will discuss how to assign tags to a node or multiple nodes, the import tags. We will also discuss how to add multiple tag values.

Tags in Puppet Remediate

Tags on any node provide additional data. We can use tags to group tasks and run tasks. You can identify and classify nodes using tags, which are key/value pairs that you can apply to them.

We can assign the tags in the following places:

📌 We can assign tags on any of the node details pages.

📌 We can assign tags on any node details page linked to the Resources Dashboard.

📌 We can assign tags on the vulnerable Nodes page linked to the Resources dashboard's Metrics bar.

📌 We can assign tags on any page with vulnerability details.

We can find the Information about the tags assigned to a specific node in the Tags column of the Nodes page table. Hover your mouse cursor over the tag icon to learn more about the tags applied to each node.

Imported Tags in Puppet Remediate

Using the Import Tags option while adding Qualys and Tenable.io tags to nodes as a source, we may also decide to import those tags. Keys for imported tags begin with imported_. The Remediate UI does not allow for the editing or deletion of imported tags.

We can perform the following operations:

🧩 Assigning a tag to a node: We can assign a tag to a single node on the node details page.

🧩 Assigning a tag to multiple nodes: We can assign tags to multiple nodes simultaneously.

🧩 Adding multiple tag values: We can organise nodes more effectively by adding more than one tag value to a tag key.

🧩 Changing Tag Values: Simply make a new tag and remove the old one to modify a tag's key. We can alter the tag itself to change an existing tag's value.

🧩 Removing tags from nodes: Tags can be removed from a single or several nodes.

🧩 Tag-based node Filter: To see which nodes have the same tag, you can filter the nodes.

Assigning a Tag to a Node in Puppet Remediate

We can assign tags to a node by following the given steps:

  • 🍁 Step 1: Simply select Assign tags on a Node Details page.

  • 🍁 Step 2: The Tag key area of the screen's side panel appears on the right side.

    1. Type a name for the tag.

    2. Then, provide a value for the tag in the Tag value field.

  • 🍁 Step 3: Select Confirm button.

We can add multiple tag values to a single node.

Assigning a Tag to Multiple Nodes in Puppet Remediate

We can assign tags to multiple nodes by following the given steps:

  • 🍁 Step 1: Select the node or nodes you wish to tag from the available ones on the page.

  • 🍁 Step 2: To assign tags, click on the ASSIGN TAGS option.

  • 🍁 Step 3: To the right of the screen, there is a side panel that includes the following:

    • In the Tag key field, type a name for the tag.

    • Then, provide a value for the tag in the Tag value field. While adding a tag value at this stage is optional, it is a good idea. A tag may have many values.

    • Select the Close button.

You can see the new tag label on the Node page's top.

Add Multiple Tag Values in Puppet Remediate

We can organise nodes more effectively by adding more than one tag value to a tag key. We can organise nodes by a specific tag into subgroups by giving the tag multiple values.

We can add multiple tag values by following the given steps:

  • 🍁 Step 1: Choose the nodes to which you wish to add the new tag on the Nodes page.

  • 🍁 Step 2: Select the assign tags option.

  • 🍁 Step 3: To the right of the screen, there is a side panel that includes the following:

    • Enter the name of the key to which you wish to add a new value in the Tag key field.

    • Next, modify the tag's value by typing a new one in the Tag value field. If none of the chosen nodes is currently using the chosen tag key, this action does not replace any existing values for the chosen tag key.

    • Select the Close button.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to edit tag values in Puppet Remediate?

Simply make a new tag and remove the old one to modify a tag's key. You can alter the tag itself to change an existing tag's value. Firstly we will create a filter and select the Add Filter option. Finally, we will select the update option and apply it to all tags.

How to remove tags in Puppet Remediate?

We will follow all the steps of editing tag values to a node. We will start with filter creation, and finally, we will perform the update option. In the search results table, choose the nodes from which you want to remove the tag. We can remove tags from a single or many nodes.

What are the operators used in filtering tags?

Two operators are used for filtering purposes: Is Assigned and Equals operator. The "Is Assigned" operator will locate all nodes that use the chosen Tag Key. To find nodes where a particular value for the given tag key exists, choose Equals and add a tag Value.
