UGC NET Exam Pattern 2022: Selection Criteria

Another aspect to consider when evaluating the UGC NET exam design is the selection process. This will provide you a quick overview of some crucial elements that we'll go through later. For the purpose of selection, a subject- and category-wise merit list is created based on the candidates' scores in all rounds.

We shall now discuss how this selection of candidates is made. The following steps will be followed:

  1. To be eligible for Assistant Professor or JRF, candidates in the General category must score at least 40% in both examinations combined, while those in the Reserved category (SC, ST, OBC, PWD, Transgender) must score at least 35% in both papers combined.
  2.
    1. The number of candidates who qualify for Assistant Professor should equal 6% of the total number of candidates in both examinations (Total slots).
    2. Similarly, the number of candidates eligible for the JRF prize should be about 1% of the total number of candidates who appeared in both papers.
  3. According to the government's reservation policy, the total slots will be divided into different groups.
  4.
    1. The qualifying cut-off for Eligibility for Assistant Professor in 'Management' subject for the General category will be determined by the aggregate percentage of both papers corresponding to the number of seats determined.
    2. The same process can be used to calculate subject-specific qualifying cut-offs for all categories.
  5. Out of the total number of qualified candidates determined as per Step IV, all candidates who applied for 'Eligibility for Assistant Professor and JRF both' will be considered for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
  6.
    1. According to the Government's Reservation Policy, the total number of slots available for granting JRF is divided into distinct topic areas.
    2. All subjects and categories follow a similar method. It is important to note that the criteria listed above are final and binding.

UGC NET Marking Scheme 2022

  • A uniform grading scheme is employed in the exam, which means that each correct answer will earn you two marks in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
  • In the redesigned UGC NET exam pattern, there is no negative marking for erroneous answers.
  • As a result, rather than skipping a question, a calculated estimate can be made and the correct answer indicated.
